About UsSherbrook Farm

When “Old John” bought 640 acres of largely undeveloped land back in 1880, he was intrigued by how the main stream neatly cut the whole block in half. It reminded him of his home area of Nottingham and Derbyshire, and a particular area where Sherbrook (or Shirebook) divided the two counties. So he named it Sherbrook.

Old John owned and operated a large brickworks on the site now occupied by the prestigious Whitford Pony Club. One of his many sons, Francis, farmed the whole block and eventually purchased 240 acres from his father and established a dairy farm.

His son, the late John Granger, a recording artist in the early fifties (Johnny Granger on Spotify), continued the dairy farming tradition into the early 1980s. It’s also been home to cattle and goats over the years. The farm has since been reduced in size, and what is left has been the base for various agricultural and family endeavours.

In recent years, the farm has been open to horse riders and their horses. Our grazers love it because the people are so friendly and new horses always settle very quickly. We are also located opposite the Whitford Pony Club, which is handy for existing members and those keen to join.
